The Big Little Freeze

How very UK. Or to put in more specifically, How very South Of England.

3 inches was all it took to bring Southampton to a grinding halt. You'd have thought that with the Black Ice Incidient of 2010 we'd have learnt our lesson. That the main roads would all be gritted, routes to the hospitals would be clear & that if you really didn't need to be on the road, you weren't.

Oh heck no. Schools closed, roads totally gridlocked, cars sliding all over the road, access route to the hospital had cars abandoned on double yellow lines leaving blue lighted ambulances stuck at the top of the road with no access.

What ever happened to the mantra "Keep Calm & Carry On". Our fellow patriots a fews hours further North are having their annual Laugh At The Southerners events in Pubs and clubs as they go about theut business. Why are we so utterley floored by the concept of snow?

When I was growing up we only ever had snow a handful of times. I think decent snow, snowman building snow, maybe just the once. My children have seen snow every year for at least 5 years. It's old hat to them.

I'm expecting a visit from relatives this afternoon, from Denmead 40 minutes away. Such a drive would usually not even warrant a travel discussion. But I can see from my window that 3 days into it and my road has still not been gritted.

Well, I hope you are enjoying your snow days. I'm not complaining, more commenting on the total panic that ensues and drives everything to stop dead at the sight of the white stuff!

I've spent 3 days enjoying time with my boys, working my scentsy business & catching up with lots of oaoerwork. Happy days :0) Enjoy the gratuitous snow pics. How did you "cope" this weekend?
