What a year! 2014, I knew you'd be good

It's been quite the year - I had a feeling in my belly this time last year it was going to be a good year. I just had no idea how good!

I had put high expectations on myself,  I took risks and I learnt as lot.

One thing is for sure, if I hadn't been with Scentsy - this year would have been decidedly bland.
I have seen Cancun and Greece in all expenses paid free holidays, earth just through running my business.

I saw a friend from Texas, who I met when i was in High School there as an exchange student - we spent 3 days together in Cancun, snorkelling, having a spa day, on the beach...an opportunity that never would have presented itself without a free trip to Cancun (to Texans what Tenerife is to us).

I saw my first Director promote! A wonderful feeling to see a member of my team work hard and achieve their goals. We have spent lots of time together on our free trips around the world!

This summer, I organised a South Of England Training Day, for all Consultants on the South Coast to attend (and those further afield if they wanted too!) A great day of relaxed training, socialising and motivation to get people where they want to be in their business, but most of all to realise they are not alone. We are a community and we all help each other, its not a competition.

More fun and games in Manchester for the annual Reunion. Thats the big one. The build up to the Autumn/Winter catalogue release. One huge national event where the whole of the UK Consultants attend. Training, more socialising, awards, fancy food and of course new product releases and giveaways! It's a highlight in my calendar, love meeting up with my friends and my team - we are so far apart it's such a pull to know I get to see and spend time with these people that are so important to me.

Our team is growing all the time, people who thought they would "give it a go" are finding a wonderful new world out there with Scentsy and what it can do for them.

Family wise I have taken my boys to London a few times, family days out with no guilt about the cost. making memories. Birthdays and Christmas debt free. I watched my son's grow this year, we've laughed, we've played, had a wonderful holiday in Devon in sleepy Dawlish. Been on little adventures, rock climbing, bike riding, we've baked, played board games, watched movies and had a few PJ days too!

Thank you for a wonderful year - and here's to the next one and where it could take me!

Do you see what I see?

I despise reading. It's not a pleasure, it's a chore.

I am a late diagnosed dyslexic. I was 32 when I was told. All through school I had been unable to read large amounts of text, the words simply disappeared as I moved my eyes along the lines and I would see little white stars blocking out letters. They would twinkle at me.

It turned into a bit of a game at first. I would read in circles, trying to "catch" the words back in their place. I could read big chunky texts and I read well, but as the books got longer and the pictures that were a welcome break in the paragraphs got less, the more I struggled.

This is what I see - try to imagine those blocks of white and the white dots are constantly moving, hiding the words.
There were a bunch of tricks I used to try and make it work, I was and still am, a huge day dreamer. Fiction was easier because I could get lost in the screen play in my mind. Every character and setting was played out in there like a TV series. This made me a slow reader, but it worked.  Non-fiction I just couldn't get through it. I learnt to listen in class and make stories in my head about what was being said.

There was no revision timetable for my exams, I would sit up all night the night before an exam and slowly, very slowly read a paragraph at a time, then scribe it out into bullet points with doodles to prompt me too.

I passed English Lit with an A having never managed to read any of the books all the way through.

Lucky for me Blockbusters was around and I could rent the TV Mini Series of each one. Then it was on to college, which I loathed. The text books were huge and daunting.  I would glance over at the stack of them in my room every so often and grab my hockey stick or football to go and play at the many different clubs I escaped to every day after school.

I failed College, scraped through the exams with the lowest possible marks but I was happy to be out of it. The biggest surprise of all is that I didn't realise I had a problem. I thought it was normal. I told myself I was just tired. Then it changed to uninterested, then lazy, can't be bothered. I didn't even realise I was actually avoiding reading. I left education at 19 with a bag of GCSE's and a High School Diploma.

It wasn't until I was 32 and at my son's Parents Evening that the penny dropped. The teacher wanted my eldest to be tested for dyslexia, and explained that she was dyslexic and how sometimes when she read there would be gaps in the pages.

So, thats not normal then? That doesn't just happen to everyone?

For the last couple of years I had moved from Accounts work to being a Medical Secretary, I loved it but would dread opening the daily post and typing dictated letters. I would get physically drained of all energy trying to get through it. The next day at work, opening the post, I saw it. I opened a letter, it was a particularly long one, and almost immediately put it aside to open the next one.  Why? Because the words had started to disappear. I didn't even realise I was working around a visual disturbance in my every day life. Like it was just normal. The next letter was brief and my eyes scanned the page, not across, but round and round trying to get the gist of the GP request before the white lights started to twinkle. The next letter I started to read then looked away from the page. Then looked back and continued to read, something I had been doing for years and I now realised it was to give my eyes time to calm down and also to try and visualise what was being said in the letter.

A visit to the GP followed, as did eye exams which concluded I have a visual disturbance in my left eye, which is in line with some dyslexic symptoms. As an adult there is no specific testing or help. Thats it, end of the road. If you want dyslexic diagnostics you have to pay £100's privately and after that there is still nowhere to go. When you are diagnosed as a child you get help, support, extra time in exams, but as an adult thats it. You are just told.

The more I talk about it, the more of us I find. We all got through school with varying degrees of success and we all have different types of issues. My main regret is that now I have some very hard habits to break. Even with a coloured acetate sheet to calm the visual disturbances, I still read in circles. I still visualise everything I read. I still look away from the page and have a little day dream to rest my eyes.

Do you want to get stuck in? Or run away?
Its a huge shame that I still do not enjoy reading, it's stressful. If I'm honest I am a bit jealous of those that love to read. "Get stuck into a good book" is something you will never hear me say - although I do wonder what it might be like to do that.

Having to work around it all my life has given me some great tools. I have an analytical mind, I love to organise and problem solve. Because I had to sort things out in my mind and store it, I naturally have become a mental storage unit, dealing with 4 or 5 things at a time. I also had to have systems in place to make sure I didn't miss things, something that has helped me in my home and working life. I am a visual person, so often see in pictures - using social media for my business I am always making posters and visual tools to help bring in the business. I had to listen, relying heavily on what people would say in class and socially. Now, I am in the business of people - I am a people person. I love to work with people and build relationships, meeting all kinds of new people.

It also gave me a huge imagination, I have always been told that I am delightfully different. There's a running joke in the family about "Liz Speak". I see a whole different slant on the everyday and can recall in immense detail, the little things. A huge family event with big announcements, and I remember that my little brother learnt to whistle that day, and where he stood when he did it and how he walked as he was doing it.

All the twists and turns of life, what you excel at and what you have to trudge through to get to the other side it all adds layers to your lifes work. I may never enjoy a book, but I have audio :) I now run my own business that revolves around people, and getting up and out and doing things.

If you have had a similar experience I would love to hear from you - what have you learnt, how you have you dealt with it.

Every day just verifies it's not about what you can't do - it's what you can do that counts.

Is now the time to start your work from home business?

Its a pipe dream isn't it? To work from home...the ultimate cushy number.

Right now, many more people are ditching the 9 to 5 and striving to be their own boss. Whats the old saying?

"Build your own dream, or someone else will hire you to build theirs..."

But building your own business from scratch involves a huge amount of risk, and trial and error. Which is why I chose to build my dream with the help of an already well estab
lished company.

In Athens May 2014
Here's the golden nugget of joy. Scentsy take all the risk for you. Insurance, product development, business tools. It's already there for you to dip into and use how you please. Because we are all Independent Consultants we can choose to run own business how we choose.

Quite simply, it's a business in a box. See how excited I was to get my box?! Now 3 years on I have traveled the world by earning Incentive Trips just for running my business, and have a thriving team beneath me, some of whom do it for the love of Scentsy, some are buildng a business with me. There's so much more to spur you on when you start a Scentsy business, you have a mentor (me, your sponsor!) who can guide you as much or as little as you want in order to mold your business how you want to.
The Vatican May 2013

In Cancun, Mexico Jan 2014
The product is such a simple concept that people fall in love with it, and the fragrances are amazing. It's the fragrances that sell it for you!

There are guidelines to work within to ensure a level playing field, and that no one Consultant has the monopoly over a particular area or field of business. The possibility for expansion as we open up all over Europe is huge. You can build a team anywhere that Scentsy is open, America, Canada, Australia, Germany, Ireland, UK & Mexico, with more countries set to open every year.

If you sell Scentsy, you get paid. If you build a team, you are building a business with a long term residual income

How do I know?? Because I have seen it happen for me these last 3 years and I can see it happening for lots of others too! Step by step you learn the tools of the trade, in a relaxed and no pressure, no target driven environment. It's all at your pace, always.
In Rome, The Colluseum May 2014

There's a great deal on in June for anyone who signs up to start a Scentsy business. It's just £84 for a business in a box, and if you sell £500 in 15 days of signing up, you get an extra kit worth £295 absolutely free. I had to pay £200 for that kit!!! It's an amazing deal and I can show you how to get that £500 in orders ready to set your business off with a boom!

Contact me today, or have a peek at my website www.scenti-mental.scentsy.co.uk.

I have a free E-book on the opportunity, so please get in touch to get your copy.

This is not a get rich quick scheme, if you are prepared to work hard and look long term - this is the one for you. Fit your business around all your other commitments, make it to those all important school plays, appointments and set your own pace.

Get me to the Greek!

How bad is it to go on holiday 3 times in a year without the rest of your family and have the BEST time ever??!! Thats ok, right?

I mean, I work hard. Really hard. So I deserve the
break...don't I?? May 2013 - All expenses mediteranian Cruise. January 2014 - Cancun Mexico. May 2014 5 days in Greece........

This direct selling/party plan malarky isn't easy. It's not skipping through fields of customers who can't get their money out quick enough to buy your goods, only to find the street lined with eager, self motivated and focused, business savvy hoards fighting to join up to your team, and be in your gang.

No-one said it was easy. Simple, yes. You sell Scentsy, you make a bit of money. You ask people if they want to sell Scentsy and they make a but of money, you make a bit more money. You train those people to do what you do and keep asking people and keep selling and before you know it you are actually earning a very nice income, the one you were told you'd never get from a direct selling company.

3 years on and I've got fed up, bored & manic. But I've never thought about not continuing. I didn't have the £94 for the starter kit to join up. That was a huge amount of money, especially to a working Mum who would never spend more than £10 on a pair of shoes for herself.

It took a lot of soul searching to not feel guilty for spending my time on working Scentsy. For doing events at the weekend and parties in the evenings. But when your Scentsy pay means that you can actually buy Christmas presents, that alone makes it all worth while.

In one weeks time I will be slight South of Athens with 40 other Consultants that worked hard and earned a week in the sun. All expenses paid. And you know what we will all be thinking? "The kids would love this...."

But do you know what Scentsy has done for me? Above everything else? It's reminded me who I am. Who I was before I was Mum. I am so devoted to my little family that I can't walk into a shop without my attention being diverted to what the kids might want. For the first time in 12 years I have time to myself. I can get up and do what I like. Finish a meal, make plans, don't make plans, take a walk, sit undisturbed and have a full conversation. You know I had clean forgotten what that was like.

This next week is more than a free trip. Thank you Scentsy, and thank you to all of my customers, hostesses,  team members, family and supporters who helped me pave the way :)

Stuck in a rut - then jettisoned out of the solar system!

Direct Sales is a Marathon, not a sprint......

Quite often you are stuck in limbo, feeling like nothing is moving, or progressing. In short you are getting nowhere.

I had been a Star Consultant with Scentsy since August 2012 with a good sized team and I was working hard. Along side working full time at the hospital, and of course being a mum to 2 young boys....and the rest. I loved it, I was working my Scentsy business everyday but I just felt stuck. I wasn't getting anywhere. Or so I thought.

It had been a hard summer, low on sales but who am I kidding, right? I had got a free trip to The Med on a 5 day cruise! So, I must have been doing something right....right? Well, it didn't feel like it. I was earning money from Scentsy, my team were sponsoring new consultants and selling, but it was a slow summer. A story we have heard all over the world, for everybody.
Convention Liverpool 2013

Convention happened in August 2013, in Liverpool. Everyone there had been talking about how hard it had been this year, how they hoped this Christmas it would all fall into place. I was hoping too. This was hard work and I so wanted it to pay off.

The new catalogue launched in September 2013, and my team sprang in action. The top Direct Sales selling months are October and November, we can sell up to 50% of our entire years sales in those 2 months - that's mega! So when I hit Superstar Consultant in September with our best ever team sales and my own personal best sales for a September I was over the moon! This was the boost I had been looking for. The justification for all the hard work I had put in, all the sparks I had left in my path over the last year were starting to ignite!

Then October came. BOOM! Highest team sales EVER!!! I hit Director. The bench mark that we call aim for. Once you hit Director you are in complete control of your team, they look to you for training and advice and you are officially a leader. I was  in a little fairy happy land.

I have trudged on with a song in my heart and a spring in my step through the hardest year business wise. Then BOOM! Super star Consultant! BOOM! Director! From stagnant to elated in 2 short months and still a full Christmas induced frenzy of November and part of December to go! THIS was Direct Selling, THIS was Scentsy, THIS was what makes the hard, slow months worth it!

Since I started out on my little Scentsy journey, I have kept hearing the same things. "You only fail when you quit", "It gets really hard, just keep going and it will be worth it", "People will come and go, don't be the one who goes - be the one who stays". All true. I am telling you.

This year my commission not only covered Christmas for the 3rd year in a row, it also paid for my plane ticket to Cancun. All those promotions had earned me Director and the opportunity to attend an all expenses paid trip to Cancun. But that's another story....

As a family that had always lived month to month, with more month always seeming to be left over once the money had run out, it has been a huge relief to know that we not only have extra income coming in to cover those unexpected essentials, but to be able to SAVE! This is a whole new world for me and my family.

The UK girls representing at Cancun, Leadership retreat.
Cocktails with Mary Christensen!
Since hitting Director in October 2013, I have been to Cancun, Mexico, and have given another presentation at our bi-annual Spring Sprint national meet up event. AND I earnt an all expensive trip to Greece in May 14. It just keeps coming. Not quite the stagnant place I was just 5 months ago.....

Scentsy is open in the USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Germany, Poland and Australia. If you would like the opportunity to earn free trips, extra income and start a business for just £94 then get in touch or log onto my website and join my team TODAY!
